Baltimore, MD – The University of Maine men's basketball team lost a close one at UMBC on Thursday night, 70-65.

Maine jumped out to an early 3-2 lead following a three-pointer by Ja'Shonté Wright-McLeish.

UMBC jumped out to a double-digit lead at 19-9 before the Black Bears answered with a 10-0 run to tie up the contest at 19-19.
Quion Burns scored five-straight points for Maine during the run.

UMBC retook a slim lead that carried into halftime as they led the Black Bears, 34-30.

Kellen Tynes and
Peter Filipovity both scored a team-high six points as seven different Black Bears got in the scoring column in the first half. Tynes and Filipovity both had three rebounds while Tynes had three steals.

Burns,
AJ Lopez and
Kristians Feierbergs combined for 13 points off the bench for Maine in the first half.

Maine began the second half on an 8-3 run to take back the lead before UMBC jumped back in front. Both sides started trading buckets as neither team could pull out to more than a four-point advantage until less than a second remaining as UMBC sealed the game with a pair of free throws.

UMBC came away with the victory following the back-and-forth contest, 70-65.

Tynes and
Kristians Feierbergs led the Black Bears in scoring with 13 points each. Tynes finished with eight rebounds and a season-high six steals while Feierbergs was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.

Maine had 20 offensive rebounds in the outing.

The Black Bears (8-10, 0-3 AE) remain on the road as they travel to NJIT on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 P.M.
