Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine football team returns home to host Stony Brook on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 3:30 p.m. in a game presented by Maine Distributors and Bouchard Cleaning & Restoration. Saturday's game will serve as the annual Military Appreciation game. The 2023 UMaine Sports Hall of Fame class will also be recognized at halftime of the game.
New GameDay Enhancements:
UMaine Athletics recently announced several enhancements to gameday in Orono including updated audio equipment, improved video board packages, a new 'Kids Zone' presented by Hannaford, and a change to tailgate policy which will now provide tailgate access to fans four hours prior to kickoff. - Maine returns to Alfond Stadium to meet Stony Brook in the 11th all-time meeting between the two programs.
- Maine and Stony Brook meet for the 11th meeting between the two programs. The all-time series is deadlocked at 5-5. Stony Brook has won each of the past two meetings, including a 28-27 decision a year ago at LaValle Stadium. In last season's meeting, the Black Bears carried a 20-7 lead into the half but were unable to hold on. The Seawolves won the latest meeting in Orono, 22-17, in 2021. Maine is 3-2 all-time at home against Stony Brook but the Seawolves have won two-straight in Orono. Maine's last win at home over Stony Brook came in 2015. The road team has won four of the past five match-ups in the series. Maine won the first three meetings played in Orono between the two programs. The two teams first met in 2007 when Stony Brook registered a 30-23 win in double overtime on its home turf.
- Maine is in search of its first win of the season and to snap a three-game home losing skid, is coming off a 28-3 loss at No. 5 William and Mary. In the game, which marked Maine's third in a row over a ranked opponent and the first time it had faced three consecutive ranked opponents in the regular season since 2013, the Black Bears trailed by just four (7-3) entering the half. However, William & Mary would outscore Maine 21-0 in the second half for the win. Maine's defense was able to limit the Tribe to just 59 passing yards. Maine checks in seventh in the CAA in passing defense (194.2 ypg).
- Stony Brook, which has lost six straight games dating back to the 2022 season, is coming off a 20-19 loss to Richmond after the Spiders hit a 28-yard field goal to take the lead with 46 seconds left in regulation. The Seawolves, who rank fourth in the CAA in turnover margin, forced five turnovers in the loss but gave the ball away three times of their own, rank 13th in the league in scoring (13.2 ppg) and 13th in points allowed (30.8). In total, Stony Brook ranks 15th in the league in total defense as it has allowed an average of 441.2 yards per game to the opposition.
