UMaine announces Family & Friends, Homecoming Dates

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine has announced the 2026 dates for its Family & Friends and Homecoming weekends.

Family & Friends weekend will take place Oct. 2-4, followed by Homecoming Weekend, presented by Bangor Savings Bank, on Oct. 23-25 in Orono.

"Family & Friends Weekend and Homecoming are two of the most meaningful traditions at the University of Maine, bringing together students, families, alumni and our broader community," said UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy. "These celebrations highlight the pride, connection and sense of community that define the Black Bear experience, while showcasing the energy and impact of our university across Maine."

Maine Football will anchor both weekends, as the Black Bears host Sacred Heart on Saturday, Oct. 3, and Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 24. Game times and additional fall athletics schedules will be announced at a later date.

Family & Friends Weekend is a longstanding tradition that welcomes thousands of visitors to campus each fall. The weekend offers an opportunity for families of all backgrounds and class years to connect with their students experiencing campus life, seasonal events and the broader Black Bear community.

"We're thrilled to welcome everyone home for these special weekends," said Orono Town Manager, Clint Deschene. "Events like these bring vibrancy to our community, support local businesses and reflect the strong partnership between the Town and the University of Maine."

Homecoming, the University of Maine's largest and most activity-filled event of the year, will kickoff on Friday, Oct. 23. The three-day event features a wide range of programming, including class reunions, tailgating, campus tours, concerts, lectures, presentations and sporting events.

"Homecoming is a celebration that resonates across the region," said Old Town City Manager, Bill Mayo. "The City of Old Town is proud to be both a community partner and season ticket holder in support of the University of Maine Athletics

"We look forward to welcoming families, alumni, and fans for Family & Friends and Homecoming weekends, which bring tremendous energy and economic impact to our region," added Economic Development Director for the City of Old Town, Amy Collinsworth. "These events highlight the strong connection between the University and surrounding communities, and we are excited to be part of that experience again this fall."
