Orono, Maine -- Former University of Maine forward Bella Swan ('16) has written and published her first children's book titled
Do You Know Your Hair is Like Magic?
A description of the book on Amazon reads as "Waves, coils, and curly Q's, ALL hair is good hair. Giving those blessed with a curly crown some reasons to love, embrace, and appreciate their natural hair. Your hair is like magic!" The book is targeted for ages 3-12.

"I grew up hating my hair," Swan says. "No matter how often I received compliments about how beautiful my hair was, there was no one in my community that looked like me. I made this book for my younger self, that needed to see other black girls with curly hair giving those compliments, doing my hair, and as characters in the books I read. I hope this reaches young people that need it like I did."
Swan, who played two seasons (2014-15, 2015-16) for the Black Bears, appeared in 68 games while averaging 5.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
