Orono, ME - The University of Maine women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the regular season behind a goal in the 83rd minute by Lara Kirkby in the 1-0 shutout over Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon. 

Kirkby, the junior transfer from the University of Oregon, cashed in on her first goal as a Black Bear on a blocked shot in front of the net that she corralled for a one timer. 

Kira Kutzinski posted her second-straight shutout to begin the 2023 season as she picked up a single save in the winning performance. 

The Black Bears extended their streak of consecutive games either won or drawn in Orono to 13-straight with a record of 7-0-5. The Black Bears haven't lost at Mahaney Diamond since Oct. 14, 2021. 

Maine wraps up their three-game home stand to begin 2023 with a matchup against Holy Cross on Thursday, Aug. 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 P.M.
