Baseball Drops Game Two of Weekend Series Against UMBC, 9-8

Orono, ME – The University of Maine dropped the second game of the weekend series against UMBC on Saturday afternoon, 9-8.
 
Third Inning: Quinn McDaniel got the Black Bears on the board first as he hit a single to center field, scoring Matt McElwain (1B).
 
Fourth Inning: UMBC scores their first run of the game on a bases loaded hit by pitch.
 
Myles Sargent hit his sixth home run of the season on a two-run home run to left field. Connor Goodman (E6) scored on the play.
 
Fifth Inning: UMBC scored a pair of runs in the frame on a fielder's choice and a double by Luke Trythall.
 
Sixth Inning: Tony Krueger got UMBC back in front on a sac-fly to center field. Ian Diaz added on with an RBI single.
 
Justin Baeyens was called on to get out of the sixth inning for the Black Bears. Noah Lewis's day came to an end after 5 and 2/3 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, 5 walks and 3 strikeouts.
 
Nick Remy was called on in the sixth inning to try and get out of the two-runners on and only one out. Jayden Shertel went 5 and 1/3 innings on the mound. He allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
 
Dean O'Neill made it a one-run contest as he singled to right field, scoring Connor Goodman (1B).
 
Nick White (BB) tied up the contest at 5-5 as he scored on a wild pitch thrown by Remy.
 
Seventh Inning: Justin Taylor gave UMBC the lead back as he singled home a run, making it 6-5.
 
Eighth Inning: Jake Rainess gave the Black Bears the lead in the eighth inning as he hit a three-run home run to left field. His 13th home run of the season scored Matt McElwain (BB) and Colin Plante (E4).
 
Ninth Inning: UMBC plated one run on a fielder's choice and their second run of the inning on a single to left field to tie up the contest. A sac-fly by Leewood Molessa gave UMBC the lead at 9-8.
 
Connor Kelly was called on to begin the ninth inning for UMBC. Nick Remy allowed 3 unearned runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts across his 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
 
Luc Lavigueur was called on in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and only one out. Justin Baeyens went 2 and 2/3 innings in relief, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks and 1 strikeout.
 
Nick Remy (4-5) grabbed the win for UMBC.
 
Connor Kelly (7) picked up the save for UMBC.
 
Justin Baeyens (2-3) took the loss for Maine.
 
Maine (24-16, 14-3 AE) will face off against UMBC on Sunday at Noon in the series finale.
