Baseball Advances to Championship Game with Win over UMBC, 3-1

Vestel, NY – The University of Maine baseball team advanced to the Championship game with their victory over #2 UMBC, 3-1.
 
Third Inning: UMBC plated their lone run of the contest on a solo home run by Anthony Swenda.
 
Quinn McDaniel tied the contest up at 1-1 as he hit a sac-fly to center field, scoring Jake Marquez (2B).
 
Sixth Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins gave the Black Bears their first lead of the contest as he hit a two-run home to right field, scoring Quinn McDaniel (BB). The home run was Jenkins 19th of the season and gave the Black Bears a lead that they wouldn't surrender.
 
Ninth Inning: Justin Baeyens was called on to wrap up the ninth inning for the Black Bears. Caleb Leys was stellar for the Black Bears as he allowed just 1 run across 8 innings of work. He allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8 batters.
 
Caleb Leys (5-0) picked up the win for the Black Bears.
 
Justin Baeyens (8) picked up the save for the Black Bears as he pitched a perfect ninth inning.
 
Jayden Shertel (5-5) took the loss for UMBC.
 
Maine will take on the winner of #3 Binghamton and #2 UMBC on Saturday at 1 P.M. Maine will need to win just one game on Saturday and has two chances to do so since they will need to be double-eliminated.
