BALTIMORE -- The University of Maine softball team defeated the UMass Lowell River Hawks, 1-0, and advanced to day number three on Thursday afternoon at the Diamond at UMBC.

The first run of the day was not scored until the fourth inning. With Jasmine Gray standing on third base, Krista Francia lined a single up the middle. The freshman continued to stay hot and gave her squad a 1-0 lead after four.

It was the only run of the afternoon playoff game as Caitlyn Fallon pitched her best game of the 2023 season. Krista Francia and Kelby Drews turned a vital double play that eliminated the River Hawks' best rally opportunity. The Black Bears continue their playoff run with a game tomorrow, Friday at 1:30 pm.

Notes:

Caitlyn Fallon went the distance, allowed zero runs on four hits, and struck out four for her first career playoff victory.
Krista Francia drove in the game winning run, Kelby Drews, Immy Gie, and Izzy Nieblas all chipped in with a hit.
