SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The University of Maine softball team defeated the Bryant University Bulldogs in the first game of the doubleheader, 4-3, while dropping game number two, 3-2, in Rhode Island.

Game One: University of Maine 4, Bryant University 3

The Bulldogs pushed on across in the bottom of the first inning. A fielder's choice was all the damage the home squad could put together. After one, Maine trailed 1-0.

Bryant scored one more in the second after the Black Bears committed an error. The 2-0 lead would not stand for long.

Madison Hand led off the third with a double,
Grace McGouldrick singled and allowed the freshman to score.
Katie Jo Moery drove in the second run of the inning with a triple to right. After three complete at Bryant, the game was tied 2-2.

The Black Bears took their first lead in the top of the fourth inning after
Anna Margetis doubled home
Jasmine Gray. Maine held a 3-2 lead after four innings.

Bryant manufactured a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Caitlyn Fallon slammed the door shut on the rally while sending the game to extras.

Jasmine Gray ripped a single to center that scored
Katie Jo Moery from second. It was the final run of the first game as Maine won game one, 4-3.

Game Two: University of Maine 2, Bryant University 3

Bryant scored first in game number two as well. With runners in scoring position, the Bulldogs lined a single up the middle. After the first inning, Maine trailed 1-0.

Kennedy Priest crushed a two-run double to center in the top of the second inning.
Mariah Pearson came around to score on the two-bagger.

The Black Bears trailed by a run after the third inning. Bryant lined a double down the left field line. It was enough to score the runner from second.

Saturday's second game found itself tied once again after
Jasmine Gray scored from third base on an error committed by the Bryant infield. After four complete, the game was tied 2-2.

The Bulldogs scored a run on a single to right in the bottom of the sixth inning. It was the game winning run as Maine fell in the finale, 3-2.

Next: The two squads are scheduled to finish the series tomorrow, Sunday, April 9. First pitch for Easter Sunday is set for 12:00 pm.
