BALTIMORE -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the UMBC Retrievers, 5-3, at the Diamond at UMBC.

The Retrievers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. They would post three more runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Two of the runs were unearned. At the end of three innings, Maine trailed 4-0.

Kennedy Priest executed the perfect bunt with runners on second and third in the top of the fifth inning. UMBC committed a throwing error so both
Grace McGouldrick and
Krista Francia came around to score.
Kelby Drews followed the bunt with an RBI single to right field. After their half of the fifth inning, Maine trailed by only a run.

UMBC added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. It was the final run of the morning as Maine dropped the final game of the weekend, 5-3.

Next: The Black Bears will return to the diamond Wednesday, April 26th at Stonehill College. First pitch in North Easton, Massachusetts is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
