Baseball Takes Down Thomas College, 10-0

Orono, ME – The University of Maine baseball team wins by mercy rule in seven innings on Thursday evening, 10-0 over Thomas College.
 
First Inning: Maine got the on the board in the first inning on a double steal by Jake Rainess (BB/SBx3) and Quinn McDaniel (FC/SBx2).
 
Jeremiah Jenkins brought home McDaniel on a sac fly to right field to make it 2-0 Black Bears.
 
Third Inning: The Black Bears added on their third run of the game as Jeff Mejia hit a sac fly to center field, scoring Jeremiah Jenkins (2B).
 
Fourth Inning: Roy Clayton's day came to an end as he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, 4 walks and striking out 2 across 3 innings. Arthur Aranda came on in relief to begin the fourth inning.
 
Fifth Inning: Jake Marquez (1B/SB) scored on a passed ball to make it 4-0 Black Bears.
 
Sixth Inning: Cam Rendell came on in relief to begin the sixth inning for the Black Bears. Tyler Nielsen turned in great outing on the mound as he allowed no runs on 1 hit and striking out 8.
 
Jacob Schubert was called on in relief to begin the sixth inning. Aranda allowed 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 1 across 2 innings.
 
Quinn McDaniel got the Black Bears going in the sixth inning as he singled home Colin Plante (1B/SB).
 
Jeremiah Jenkins added on the Black Bears sixth run as he hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Jake Rainess (1B/SB).
 
Connor Goodman added the third Black Bear run as he grounded out to second base, scoring Quinn McDaniel (1B/SB).
 
Albert Acosta was called on in the middle of the sixth inning to get out of the frame for Thomas College. Schubert allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks across 2/3 of an inning.
 
Seventh Inning: Quinn McDaniel singled home Jake Rainess (1B/SB) on a line drive to left field.
 
Jeremiah Jenkins hit a two-run home run to right field to make it 10-0 and bring into play the mercy rule as Maine wins, 10-0. Quinn McDaniel (1B/SB) scored on the play.
 
Tyler Nielsen (1-2) picked up the win for Maine.
 
Roy Clayton (0-1) took the loss for Thomas College.
 
Maine (18-12, 11-1 AE) remains at Mahaney Diamond for a weekend series against Hartford beginning at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, Apr. 21.
