KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the University of Rhode Island in both ends of the non-conference doubleheader, 8-1 and 8-0.

Game One: University of Maine 1, University of Rhode Island 8

The Rhodys did their damage in the first and fifth inning. The home squad put together a five-run rally in their first at bats of the afternoon. A double and single were the two scoring knocks.

A single, a stolen base, an error, and a ground out equaled three runs in the bottom of the fifth. After five complete, Maine trailed 8-0.

Jasmine Gray scored the only run of game number one when she stole home. The Black Bears dropped the non-conference game, 8-1.

Rhode Island struck first in game number two, as well. They pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first inning. A ground out and a single were enough for two early runs.

The Rhodys added two more to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs, they scored two runs. Maine trailed 4-0 at the end of four complete.

URI scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to run rule the Bears, 8-0.
