Rock Hill, SC - The University of Maine baseball team drops on Saturday afternoon in game two of the weekend series against Winthrop, 6-2.
First Inning: Quinn McDaniel led the scoring with a solo home run to give Maine the early lead. The home run was McDainel's third of the season and second of the weekend.
Second Inning: The Winthrop Eagles answered with a single from Nicholas Badillo who drove in a run, tying the game.
Seventh Inning: Things stayed quiet until the seventh. Zan Rose replaced Dyson Johnson on the mound. Johnson pitched 6 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 run.
Maine also decided to make some changes with Tyler Nielsen to replace Colin Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald also pitched 6 full innings, striking out 4, allowing 5 hits, and 1 run.
Winthrop broke the scoring drought with having bases loaded and forcing a walk followed by a batter hit by a pitch to walk two across. Ty Hooks also had a strong hit that scored two more.
Eighth Inning: Halfway through the inning the Black Bears made another change on the mound bringing in Ryan Scott for Nielsen.
Brody Hopkins tallied a solo home run for the Eagles.
Ninth Inning: Maine added their final run of the day with a single to right field from Dylan McNary driving in Colin Plante (1B).
Winthrop came away with their second win of the series, 6-2.
Tyler Nielsen (0-1) picked up his first loss for Maine.
Zan Rose (2-0) got the win for Winthrop.
Maine (2-6) will complete the weekend series with Winthrop on Sunday, Mar. 5. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
