Baltimore, MD – The University of Maine baseball team completed the weekend sweep at UMBC at they took the final game on Saturday evening, 8-7.

First Inning: The Black Bears put up four runs in the opening frame as
Jake Rainess (2B) and
Quinn McDaniel (BB) scored on an error by the second basemen.

Ryan Turenne added on the other two runs as he hit a two-run single to left center, scoring
Jeremiah Jenkins (BB) and
Connor Goodman (E4).
Â
Second Inning: Christian Easley got UMBC on the board with an RBI on an infield single.
Â
Fourth Inning: Joe Pucek began the inning on the mound, spelling the end of the day for Nick Remy. Remy lasted just three innings and allowed four unearned runs on 3 hits, 6 walks and striking out 4.

The Black Bears put up their second four-run inning of the contest as
Connor Goodman got it started with an RBI single to left, scoring
Quinn McDaniel (2B)

Colin Plante followed up with an RBI single to center field, scoring
Jeremiah Jenkins (BB).

Myles Sargent followed suit with a third-straight RBI single, this one to left field, scoring
Connor Goodman (1B).

Mike Pratte capped off the inning with a fourth-straight RBI single with his going to right field, scoring
Colin Plante (1B).

Sixth Inning: UMBC got two back as Ryan hit a two-run home run.

Eighth Inning: Connor Kelly began the inning on the mound for UMBC, bringing about the end of the day for Joe Pucek. Pucek went 4 innings and allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and striking out 4.

Tyler Nielsen came on to begin the inning, spelling the end of the day for
Noah Lewis.

Diaz brought home the first of four runs in the eighth frame for UMBC on a single to center.

Nielsen failed to record an out as the Black Bears turned the ball over to
Blaine Cockburn. Nielsen allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 wild pitch.

Luke Johnson was hit by a pitch to score another run and Swenda singled to left field to score the third run.

Cockburn registered a strikeout on the first batter he faced but that was the only out he got as the Black Bears turned the ball over to
Justin Baeyens. Cockburn allowed 1 run on two hit batters.

Taylor drew a bases loaded walk to make it a one-run game at 8-7.

The Black Bears came away with the win and the weekend sweep of UMBC with the 8-7 victory in game three of the weekend.

Nick Remy (2-3) took the loss for UMBC.

Justin Baeyens (3) picked up the save as he went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits, 2 walks and striking out 3.

Maine (7-10, 3-0) will remain on the road for one last trip before their home opener as they travel to Saint Joseph's for a weekend series on Friday, Mar. 24 through Sunday, Mar. 26.
