Baseball Falls in Game One of Weekend Series Against Maryland, 10-25

College Park, MD - The University of Maine baseball team falls in game one of the weekend series against Maryland, 10-25 including an eight run inning.

First Inning: Jake Rainess got  Maine their first hit of the day with a single to right center.

Nick Lorusso and Matt Shaw hit back to back home runs for Maryland scoring them two runs.

Second Inning: Maryland scored two more to extend their lead.

Third Inning: Maryland continued to have a strong day behind the plate including a grand slam and two home runs. 

Fourth Inning: Blaine Cockburn took over for Colin Fitzgerald on the mound. Maryland added two more to their total.

Fifth Inning: Luc Laviguer got his turn on the mound for Maine and struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Sixth Inning: Jake Rainess began the inning with a walk and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Quinn McDaniel forced another walk to put himself on first. Jeremiah Jenkins then grounded out to first but moved Rainess and McDaniel. Connor Goodman was next up who singled through the right side driving in Rainess for Maine's first run and second hit of the night.

Jacob Small started the inning on the mound for Maine.

Elijah Lambros then hit his second home run of the night for Maryland to drive in two runs.

Andrew Chevarie then replaced Small in the circle for Maine.

Seventh Inning: Dylan McNary had a hard hit single through the right side that drove in Myles Sargent (1B) for Maine's second run. 

Maine made their fifth pitching change of the night for Matt McElwain replacing Chevarie.

Luke Zeisloft doubled to drive in one run for Maryland and they scored another on a passed ball. James Heffley also drove in two more runs for Maryland.

Cam Rendell then placed McElwain on the mound.

Eighth Inning: Maryland made their first pitching change of the night with Joey Colucci going in for Ryan Van Buren.

Maine had their strongest inning in the top of the eighth. Jeremiah Jenkins doubled to center and Connor Goodman reached first on an error from the shortstop. Then on a passed ball, Jenkins and Goodman each advanced. Jeff Mejia then forced a walk to get the bases loaded. Myles Sargent then doubled to left center to drive in Jenkins and Goodman. Colby Emertz added two more with a double to right field that brought in Sargent and Mejia. 

Maryland then makes a pitching change to bring Travis Garnett to the mound. 

Dylan McNary was hit by a pitch to get to first. Jake Rainess then singled to shortstop that scored Colby Emertz. Quinn McDainel forced a walk to put himself on first, Rainess on second, and McNary on third. Jenkins forced a walk with bases loaded to bring McNary across. 

Andrew Johnson then got a turn on the mound for Garnett. 

Connor Goodman then hit a double down the right field line scoring Rainess and McDaniel.

Maine began the bottom of the inning by bringing Tyler Nielsen to the mound for Rendell.

Maryland scored a quick four runs to give them 25.

Jason Savacool (3-2) got the win for Maryland.

Colin Fitzgerlad (0-1) picked up the loss for Maine.
