LOWELL, Mass. -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team tied the #17/#20 UMass Lowell River Hawks, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon in the Tsongas Center.

First Goal (1-0 #17/#20 UMass Lowell): Owen Cole scored the first goal of the afternoon at the 3:27 mark of the first period. Marek Korencik fired a shot off the post. Crashing the net, Cole was able to poke the puck between
Victor Ostman's legs and into the Maine net. The lead would not last.

Second Goal (1-1): After forcing a turnover in the Lowell end,
Thomas Freel flipped a shot off the River Hawks' netminder. Henry Welsch was unable to cover the puck as
Lynden Breen crashed the net. The junior's rebound goal was his seventh straight game with a tally. Maine tied the game at the 6:35 mark of the first period. It would eventually become the final goal of the afternoon.

The second period was skated to a scoreless tie. Ostman saved all 12 shots he faced in the middle frame.

After the third and overtime period both finished scoreless, the River Hawks earned the extra point by winning the shootout, 2-0.

Notes: Victor Ostman saved 23 shots in net for the Black Bears, while Henry Welsch stopped 29 shots between the pipes for UMass Lowell.

Maine went 0 for 3 on the power play, as the River Hawks were 0-3 on its player advantages.
