Men's Hockey Ties Night One of Border Battle at UNH, 2-2

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team tied the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, 2-2, on Friday evening in the Whittemore Center.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): While on the first power play opportunity of the evening, the Black Bears took a 1-0 lead. Grayson Arnott connected on a pass through the middle of the ice to Ben Poisson. The senior's shot was saved by the UNH netminder. Unable to corral the rebound, Nolan Renwick punched the puck into the Wildcats' net. At the end of 20:00, Maine held a one goal lead.

Second Goal (1-1): While on their first power play opportunity of the evening, the Wildcats tied the Hockey East contest. Maine was unable to clear the puck from their zone. Ryan Black found the puck on his stick before leaving it for Kristaps Skrastins. The forward fired from between the face-off dots and into the Maine net. At the 7:05 mark of the second period, the Black Bears and Wildcats found themselves in a tied contest.

Third Goal (2-1 Maine): After Ben Poisson's shot was saved by the Wildcats' netminder, Didrik Henbrant scored the go ahead goal. Luke Antonacci cycled the puck over to Poisson who fired on net. Henbrant's go ahead efforts would not be enough for the Black Bears.

Fourth Goal (2-2): Chase Stevenson re-directed the game tying goal for UNH. Damien Carfagna let go from the blue line. Stevenson's hand-eye coordination would send this thing to overtime.

The overtime period was played to a scoreless tie before the Wildcats won the shootout, 1-0.

Notes: Victor Ostman saved 21 shots in net for the Black Bears, while David Fessenden stopped 26 shots between the pipes for UMass Lowell.

Maine went 1 for 1 on the power play, as the Wildcats were 1-1 on its lone player advantage.

Next: The Black Bears return to the ice next Friday, February 17 for a weekend series at UNH. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
