Minneapolis, MN – The University of Maine men's basketball team was defeated by Minnesota on Friday night, 80-62.

Maine took an early 4-2 lead over Minnesota following buckets by
Peter Filipovity and
Jaden Clayton.

After Minnesota took a brief lead, Maine answered with a 7-2 run to take a three-point lead less than six minutes into the contest.

Maine held their lead until the 11:06 mark in the first half before Minnesota jumped back in front at 17-16.

Minnesota slowly started to build up their first half lead as they ended the first half on an 11-2 run as they took a 41-28 lead into the break.

Kellen Tynes and Filipovity both had eight points in the first half. Tynes dished out three assists and Filipovity grabbed six rebounds.

Maine forced five turnovers in the first half.

Maine chipped into the Minnesota lead as they started out the second half on a 10-2 run, capped off by
Kristians Feierbergs second three-pointer of the night.

The Black Bears kept their deficit at six points until midway through the second half as Minnesota pushed it back to double-digits with 11:14 remaining in the contest.

Maine went on a 6-0 run in 58 seconds of gametime late in the second half to cut the deficit back down to ten points.

Minnesota would be able to hold onto their double-digit lead as they defeated the Black Bears, 80-62.

Filipovity finished with a team-high 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Kristians Feierbergs finished with 14 points off the bench while Tynes had 13 points and seven assists in his return to action.

Maine (8-7) concludes non-conference action with a winning record for the first time since 2003-04 as they head to Vermont on Saturday, Jan. 6 to begin America East play.
