Bronx, N.Y. -- The University of Maine women's basketball team posted its best shooting performance of the year (51.9%) to help guide it to a 74-62 road win over Fordham on Saturday afternoon.
A game after posting her career-high (34) in scoring,
Anne Simon led all scorers in the win over Fordham with 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds.
Adrianna Smith posted her sixth double-double of the season, and her fourth consecutive, with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Sera Hodgson went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc for 12 points.
After suffering a season-ending injury in last year's season opener,
Anna Kahelin returned to the court 390 days following the injury. Kahelin logged 15 minutes of action and score two points in her return.
Maine dominated the boards with a 40-28 advantage and limited the Rams to just 3-of-12 from the floor in the second quarter to help build the first half advantage.
The Black Bears hit a season-high 11 triples, including four from Simon, and finished the win 28-for-54 from the floor.
With the game tied at 14-14 late in the first quarter, Maine would put together a 10-0 run spanning into the second to take a double-digit lead.
Paula Gallego began the run with a driving layup before a three from Simon ran the lead to five. Simon ended the first quarter with a layup off a turnover, giving her 10 points, before
Caroline Bornemann's triple to start the second gave the Black Bears a 24-14 advantage.
Fordham responded, trimming the deficit to five.
A 5-0 run by the Black Bears, keyed by a triple from Hodgson, raced the lead back out to 10.
Maine would take a 33-23 edge into the break.
Fordham cut the lead to eight in the third quarter but it would be as close as the Rams would get.
With Maine's lead at nine midway through the third, back-to-back triples by Simon gave the Black Bears their largest lead of the afternoon at 48-33.
Maine cruised through the fourth to capture the road win, 74-62.
The Black Bears return home on Wednesday, Dec. 6 to host Harvard at 6 p.m.
