Orono, ME - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated by New Hampshire in the first game of the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle, 3-2.
Chavonne Truter, Danika Botterill and Rae Breton scored the three goals for New Hampshire in the contest.
The Black Bears got their offense going in the third period as
Ida Kuoppala scored her fifth goal of the season on a 2-on-1 play that was set up by a steal and pass by
Rahel Enzler (5).
Haley Ryan made it a one-score game as she scored her second goal of the season on the power play with 18 seconds remaining in the contest. Her tip-in shot was set up by
Ashley Kokavec (4) and
Ida Kuoppala (4).
Jorden Mattison picked up 19 saves in the losing effort for Maine.
Maine (2-3, 0-1 HE) is back in action on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21 as they travel to Providence College. Both games are scheduled to begin at 2 P.M.
