Black Bears achieve high marks for fall semester

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine student-athletes posted impressive marks for the fall semester as 16 of the 17 varsity programs achieved cumulative team grade point averages of 3.0 or better for the 2022 fall term. The Black Bears achieved a department cumulative GPA of 3.31 for the fall term.

Of the 17 varsity programs, eight achieved team GPA totals of 3.5 or better for the fall term. The women's soccer team led all programs with a department high 3.78 GPA for the term, followed by women's basketball at 3.71. The men's cross country team achieved the highest mark of any men's program with a 3.64 mark. Additionally, field hockey (3.68), softball (3.68), men's ice hockey (3.61), women's swimming & diving (3.57), and women's ice hockey (3.52) all bested 3.50 for the term.

Ten programs achieved their highest fall semester GPA since 1988. Those teams were men's basketball, men's cross country, men's swimming and diving, men's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field, field hockey, women's ice hockey, women's soccer, softball, and women's swimming & diving.

Of those ten programs, men's cross country, men's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field, men's swimming & diving (tied), women's ice hockey, women's soccer, and softball posted their highest ever term GPA.

Additionally, 53 individual student-athletes achieved perfect 4.00 GPAs for the fall term.
