Men's Basketball Grabs First Conference Win of the Season Over Binghamton Sunday Afternoon, 78-57

Bangor, ME – The University of Maine men's basketball team picked up their first conference win of the season as they dominated Binghamton Sunday afternoon, 78-57.
 
The Black Bears got on the board first on the afternoon as Kristians Feierbergs buried a hook shot.
 
Maine kept up their early pressure as they got out to an early seven-point lead as Gedi Juozapaitis (8) knocked down a three-pointer off of a feed by Kellen Tynes.
 
The Black Bears took their biggest lead of the opening half with 8:56 left on the clock as Peter Filipovity made a layup.
 
The Bearcats got some offense going down the stretch in the first half, but the Black Bears kept the lead in double-digits heading into half as they led 36-25.
 
Gedi Juozapaitis led all scorers in the first half as he had 11 points, including three three-pointers.
 
Kellen Tynes had a stat-stuffing first half as he had five points, three assists and four steals.
 
Peter Filipovity had four points in nine minutes off the bench in his first half of action since returning from a finger injury.
 
Christian Hinckson had seven points to lead the Bearcats at the half.
 
The Black Bears came out in the second half and pushed their lead back to 15 at 47-32 following a second-chance layup by Kellen Tynes.
 
Maine took their biggest lead of the afternoon as Fofo Adetogun hit a free throw line jumper off of a feed by Kellen Tynes to make it a 17-point lead with 11:45 left in the second half.
 
The Black Bears were relentless on the defensive end throughout the afternoon as they continued to force turnovers and lead by double-digits throughout the second half.
 
Maine came away with the win on the afternoon over the Bearcats, 78-57.
 
Gedi Juozapaitis led the Black Bears in scoring on the afternoon as he finished with 21 points, including five three-pointers.
 
Kellen Tynes finished with a full stat-line as he had 14 points, seven assists, two rebounds and six steals.
 
Peter Filipovity made his return from injury to chip in 12 points in the winning performance.
 
Maine (7-12, 1-5 AE) is back in action on Wednesday Jan. 25 as they play host to the UMass Lowell River Hawks. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. at the Cross Insurance Center.
