Boston, MA - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams competed at the UMass Flagship Invitational for their first meet of 2023. 

On the men's side they were led by many strong performances including Alex Troxell who placed first overall in the 5000m run with a time of 14:34.11. 

The men saw more finishes in the top ten for the track events. Cole Martin ran a 6.90 in the 60m dash earning him sixth. Evan Thornton-Sherman placed second overall in the one mile race coming in at a time of 4:15.08. Sam Mills also showed his speed in the 3000m run finishing with a time of 8:28.39. In the 1600 relay the Black Bears got a time of 3:26.11 earning them ninth place overall run by Conner Michaud, Zachary Beaton, Josh Sewell, and Owen Mild. 

The field events for the men were led by Jonathan Prell who placed third in the shot put with a mark of 16.20m. Ryker Brown also had an impressive performance in the shot put earning a mark of 15.21m that put him in sixth place.
Also earning sixth place was Denis Simost Sima-Matha also placed in the triple jump with a mark of 13.75m. 

For the women, they were led by Mackenzie Wilson who placed fourth in the weight throw (17.84m).

Maine had more strong performances in the weight throw including Cheyenne Figueroa who placed seventh with a mark of 17.02m. Figueroa had another strong performance on the day placing fourteenth in the shot put with a mark of 11.83m. 
Jumping to a mark of  11.24m was Emma White who placed ninth in the triple jump. 

In the track events, Lyda Gilmore finished with a time of 5:15.24 in the one mile run, earning her eighth. Anna Folley had a strong finish in the 800m run placing fifteenth with a time of 2:43.53.

The Black Bears now prepare to travel not too far from home to compete at the Bates Multi Meet.
