Orono, Maine - The University of Maine women's and men's cross country teams begin their season at home against Army on Sept. 2. The women start at 5 P.M. and the men will follow at 5:45 P.M.
Each race will begin at the fields located behind the Maine Field Hockey Complex and will finish in front of the grandstands at Alfond Stadium.
On the women's side, they will be led by a pair of juniors in
Lydia Gilmore (Bangor, ME) and
Rachel Hodge (Delmar, NY). They both finished the 2021 fall season with strong showings at the America East Championships. Gilmore placed 25th with a time of 18:07.78 and Hodge placed 62nd with a time of 19:16.01 in the 5K race.
For the men, they will be led by seniors
Luke Marsanskis (Cumberland, ME),
Sam Mills (Biddeford, ME), and
Alec Troxell (Portland, ME). Marsanskis led the way with a third place finish in the 2021 America East Championship at a time of 24:04.4 in the 8K race. Troxell ranked second for the Black Bears, taking 15th at a time of 24:31.94 and Mills ranked third, finishing 33rd with a time of 25:28.63.
Maine took fourth place on the men's side and ninth place on the women's side as a team in the America East Championship to conclude the 2021 season.
