Orono, Maine – Hana Davis of the field hockey team and Joe Bramanti of the baseball team are UMaine's nominees for the 2021-22 America East Man and Woman of the Year awards, as announced by the conference on Thursday, June 9.

Davis, who served as the captain of the Fall 2021 America East Championship field hockey team, appeared in 84 games as a Black Bear, in which she scored 20 goals and dished out eight assists. In the spring of 2021, Davis earned America East Midfielder of the Year honors and a spot on the America East first team. Davis, a National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region selection, earn a spot on the America East second team in the fall of 2021.

In May of 2022, Davis completed her Masters in Business Administration with a 3.71 GPA. Davis achieved a 3.6 undergraduate GPA after earning her bachelor of arts in Communication and Marketing. Davis was the female recipient of the 2022 M' Club Dean Smith award, presented annually to the top male and female student-athletes at the University of Maine.

In the community, Davis has volunteered five times for the UMaine National Women in Sports Day, she has worked with the UMaine Field Hockey camps/clinic, is a Referee for Maine high school field hockey tournaments and jamborees, she served as the SAAC President, has organized, run and overseen all UMaine Food Frenzy campaigns, volunteered for Operation Breaking Stereotypes for Old Town, Orono and Indian Island middle schools, volunteered and co-organized student athlete wellness events for the UMaine Mind Spa, participated in Orono Middle School Title XI intermurals, volunteered and coached for Orono Elementary Field Hockey clinics and was a student participant in the Maine New Leadership Conference.

Bramanti, who served as one of the leaders of the 2022 America East co-regular season champions baseball team, was a career .274 hitter in his 160 games as a Black Bear. He hit 26 home runs, including 17 during the 2022 season, the most in America East since 1999. He drove in 126 runs during his collegiate career and was named to the America East first team in 2022.

In May of 2022, Bramanti completed his Master's in Business Administration. He finished with a 3.367 GPA during his collegiate career. He is a two-time dean's list member, a four-time UMaine Scholar Athlete, a three-time America East Honor Roll Member and a 1-time America East Commissioner's Honor Roll Member.

In the community, Bramanti has volunteered for the Hamden Academy Special Olympics, the UMaine Food Frenzy, the Walking School bus as a part of the UMaine baseball team, reading days at the elementary schools in the Orono area, helping with the UMaine baseball camps, assisting Orono and Old Town with their Sports Day's for the elementary schools and he is a 5-year baseball SAAC representative.

The awards recognizes the conference's senior male and female student-athlete who has best distinguished himself and herself throughout their collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service, and leadership.
To be nominated, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in their primary sport by the end of the 2022 spring season or received their undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2022 term and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.500 (4.000 scale). Institutions are permitted to submit up to two nominees for each award if at least one is an international or ethnic minority student-athlete.
The nominees will be narrowed down to three finalists per gender, who will be announced on Thursday, June 16. The 2021-22 America East Man and Woman of the Year will be unveiled on Thursday, June 24.
America East began honoring a Woman of the Year in 2006 and introduced the Man of the Year award in 2015.
