Softball Drops Rubber Game to Binghamton in 10 Innings

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Binghamton University Bearcats, 10-6, on Sunday afternoon at Kessock Field.

Maine: 6 Binghamton: 10 (10 innings)

Grace McGouldrick gave the Black Bears a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. With Brianna Neely on second base, the senior second baseman singled to center field and scored Neely. With Kelby Drews on second and McGouldrick on third, Izzy Nieblas singled to deep left field. Maine led 3-0 after the first inning.
 
Kya Enos drove in a run with an opposite field single in the second inning at bat. The Black Bears lead was four after 12 total outs.
 
The Bearcats pushed across two runs on a double in the top of the third inning and two in top of fifth inning. After five complete innings, the score was tied 4-4.
 
Binghamton scored two more runs, this time in the top of the sixth inning. The runs were both unearned. The lead was short lived as the Black Bears posted two runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth. Kyra Dailey and Brianna Neely both scored as Maine manufactured two runs and tied the game, 6-6.
 
The Bearcats scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning. A hit by pitch, single, double, and triple equaled four runs for the visitors. They were the final runs of the game as Maine fell, 10-6.

Next: The Black Bears return to the diamond this Wednesday, April 27. First pitch at UMass Lowell is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
