Caitlyn Fallon Throws Complete Game Shutout in Game Two Win Over Binghamton

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Binghamton University Bearcats, 3-1, in game number one, while winning game number two, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Kessock Field.

Game One - Maine: 1 Binghamton: 3
Binghamton scored one unearned run in the top of fourth inning. The Bearcats tripled with two outs before coming around to score on an error committed by the Black Bears' infield. The lead was short-lived.

In the bottom half of the fourth, Maine tied the conference contest at one run apiece. Kelby Drews singled home Gabby Papushka from third base. After four innings, the score was 1-1.

The Bearcats posted two runs in the top of the sixth inning. A walk, a hit by pitch, an error and two hits spelled two runs for the visitors from Binghamton. They were the final runs of the first game of the day as Maine fell, 3-1.

Notes:

Gabbie Siciliano and Emily Reid (2-10) went seven innings for the Bears. They allowed one earned run and gave up only four hits as a unit.
Gabby Papushka and Keely Clark both recorded two hits in the game one defeat.

Game Two - Maine: 3 Binghamton: 0
The Black Bears took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Grace McGouldrick bunted home Kya Enos, before Kelby Drews drove in McGouldrick with a double. Drews scored on an error committed by the Bearcats center fielder. Maine led 3-0 after the first six outs.

They were the first and only runs of runs of the Saturday finale. The Black Bears took game two, 3-0.

Notes:

Caitlyn Fallon (3-2) tossed her second consecutive complete game. The junior struck out five, allowed zero runs, and only gave up four hits.
Grace McGouldrick and Kelby Drews recorded the four hits, and Drews tallied the only RBI.

Next: The squads will finish the conference series tomorrow, Sunday, April 24. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
