ST. GEORGE, Ut. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by Southern Utah University, 6-2, during the final game of the Dixie Softball Classic.
 
Maine: 2 Southern Utah: 6
 
Southern Utah scored two runs after loading the bases in the bottom of the first inning. A walk and a hit by pitch were the downfall of the Black Bears in the first frame.
 
SUU tacted on three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Keely Clark cut into the five run deficit with a two-run single in top of the fourth inning. Jasmine Gray and Rylee Kent came around to score on the base knock.
 
The Thunderbirds scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning. They were the final runs of the non-conference game as Maine fell, 6-2.
 
Notes:

• Gabbie Siciliano and Emily Reid (0-4) both appeared in the final game at Dixie State. They combined to allow only four earned while striking out four.
• Rylee Kent, Jasmine Gray, Keely Clark, and Gabby Papushka tallied the four Maine hits.

 
Next: The Black Bears return to the diamond Tuesday, March 15 for a doubleheader at BYU. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
