Bangor, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team dropped its regular season finale to Vermont by a final of 75-56 on Tuesday evening at the Cross Insurance Center. Maine ends the 2021-22 season at 6-23 overall, 3-15 in America East play.
Peter Filipovity guided Maine's balance scoring attack with a team-high nine points on 4-of-8 shooting while
Byron Ireland chipped in seven points off the bench.
Stephane Ingo matched a career-high with six blocks while
Vukasin Masic grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.
For the seventh time this season, the Black Bears featured a single digit turnover total as Maine featured just eight turnovers in the contest. Maine finished 20-of-59 from the floor and 13-of-17 from the free throw line.
Vermont raced out to a 10 point cushion as it opened the game on a 15-5 run.
The Catamount lead would reach 18 late in the first half. However, Maine would end the half strong as buckets from
Kristians Feierbergs and
Maks Klanjscek came as part of a 6-0 run. The sprint chipped the lead to 12 but a late first half bucket from Vermont sent the Black Bears into the half trailing 38-24.
Maine fell behind by 18 early in the second but would again answer, this time with a 5-0 sprint. Ingo's bucket off an offensive rebound came before a triple by Ja'Shonte Wright-McLeish brought the Black Bears back within 13.
However, it would be as close as Maine would get as Vermont elevated the lead out to 23 before capturing the 75-56 decision.
