Baton Rouge, La. --
Jake Marquez went 2-for-3 while
Joe Bramanti drove in three runs as the Black Bears dropped their series finale at No. 3 LSU, 21-6, on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers plated five runs in the first and six more in the second to jump out to an early 11-0 lead.
Maine was able to get on the board in the top of the third. Marquez's one-out double to left started the surge before two-straight walks loaded the bases for the Black Bears.
Quinn McDaniel's sacrifice fly to center allowed Marquez to tag and score Maine's first run of the afternoon.
LSU answered with one run in the bottom of the third before tagging on eight runs in the home half of the fifth, extending the lead to 20-1.
Maine continued to fight, rallying for five runs in the top of the seventh. Three consecutive walks started the inning for Maine before
Jordan Schulefand reached on a fielder's choice, bringing in
Myles Sargent. McDaniel would walk to once again load the bases for Maine.
Colby Emmertz brought in Maine's third run when his single to left plated Marquez. Two batters later, Bramanti would lace a double to center field, clearing the bases to bring in three more Black Bears.
The Tigers would add another run in the bottom of the eighth and hang on for a 21-6 victory.
