Lowell, Mass. -- The University of Maine women's basketball team outscored UMass Lowell 38-15 in the second half, including a 20-4 advantage in the third quarter, to earn its third-straight win with a 58-36 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Olivia Rockwood paced a balanced Maine scoring attack with a career-high 13 points on a career-high four triples while
Anne Simon added 12 points and seven steals, including the 150th takeaway of her career.
Maeve Carroll chipped in 10 points while
Paula Gallego added six points and a career-best nine rebounds.
A game after holding Vermont to 37 points, the Black Bears limited UMass Lowell to 36; a season-low total for Maine's defense. The Black Bears forced 24 turnovers with 13 steals and finished the contest with a 31-22 advantage on the boards.
Maine ended a seesaw first half on a 4-0 run before extending the run to an impressive 27-4 sprint. A 7-0 run put the Black Bears on top by four early in the third. Maine would close the third quarter on a 13-0 run to firmly take control of the contest. Triples from Rockwood and
Caroline Bornemann sandwiched a pair of buckets from Carroll and Simon to start the sprint. A bucket at the buzzer from Carroll extended Maine's lead to 40-25 after third quarters of action. The Black Bears have now outscored their last two opponents by a total margin of 36-4 combined in the third quarter.
A 9-0 run by the Black Bears in the fourth gave the visitors their largest lead of the afternoon, 56-31. A triple from Rockwood, her fourth of the day, keyed the run, as the Black Bears would cruise to a 58-36 road win.
Maine returns to action on Friday when it begins a two-game set at Binghamton. Friday night's contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m. before Maine closes the weekend at Binghamton on Sunday at noon.
