Black Bears Drive in 8, Fall Short at #8 LSU

BATON ROUGE, LA – The University of Maine baseball team got the offense going, but came up short at #8 LSU, 17-8.
 
First Inning: Tigers came out swinging for the fences as Cade Doughty hit a 3-run homer as LSU grabbed the early lead. Gavin Dugas added in an RBI single.
 
Second Inning: Brayden Jobert added to the Tigers lead with a sac-fly, making the lead 5-0.
 
Third Inning: Maine would come out and get the bats going in the third. Jake Rainess hit a line drive to left field to drive in Colby Emmertz. Jordan Schulefand followed with a sac-fly, driving in Jake Marquez. Quinn McDaniel capped off the 3-run inning by the Black Bears with a double down the left field line.
 
LSU would answer back with a pair of runs. Tre' Morgan drove in one with a sac-fly and Dylan Crews drove in the other with a double to right field.
 
Fourth Inning: Jack Merrifield drove in the lone run of the inning, an LSU score, with a single up the middle.
 
Fifth Inning: Schulefand got the Black Bears going as he drove in Rainess with a double to deep-left. Schulefand would later come around to score on a wild pitch in the inning.
 
LSU would respond with a 5-run bottom of the fifth. Doughtry hit a 1-run double to left field to get the scoring going. Jobert would follow up with a 2-run double to right field. Merrifield would cap off the inning with a 2-run single to right field.
 
Sixth Inning: Joe Bramanti hit his first home-run of the season for the Black Bears as he deposited the first pitch he saw deep into the right field bleachers.
 
LSU would answer with a home-run of their own by Jacob Berry. Doughtry would also drive in a run on a groundout in the inning.
 
Seventh Inning: Berry would go deep again for his second home-run of the contest as he drove in the last of the LSU runs on the night.
 
Eighth Inning: Bramanti kept his big night going for the Black Bears as he roped a double to deep left field, driving in Scout Knotts. Myles Sargent followed up with his first collegiate hit, an RBI single to right field.

Final Score: LSU 17, Maine 8
 
Noah Lewis took the loss for the Black Bears, surrendering 7-runs, 6 earned. Colin Fitzgerald pitched 3 and 2/3 in relief, allowing 10 runs, all earned, while striking out 5. Lief Bigelow pitched 1 and 1/3 scoreless frames to close out the night, striking out one.
 
The Black Bears close out the weekend set against the Tigers on Sunday, Feb. 20. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
