Akron, OH – The University of Maine men's basketball team was defeated by the Zips of the University of Akron on Monday night, 87-55.

The Zips got out to the early lead in the contest as they pushed to a 7-point lead at 9-2 at the first media timeout of the contest.

The Black Bears began to trade baskets as they started to get some offense going in the contest, with
Kellen Tynes hitting a 3-pointer and
Kristians Feierbergs hitting a pair of 3-point shots.

After trimming the score to a one-point game, Akron retook the momentum in the contest as they pushed their lead to double digits at 27-15 with 7:38 remaining in the opening half.

Akron pushed their lead to 44-23 as the contest entered halftime.

Kristians Feierbergs led the Black Bears in scoring in the opening 20 as he scored eight points on three of four shooting from the field.

Peter Filipovity (7 pts, 3 rebs) turned in a solid opening half for Maine.

Xavier Castaneda led all scorers in the first half with 18 points for the Zips.

The Black Bears put up a stronger fight in the second half of the contest, upping their point total from 23 in the first half to 32 in the second half.

The Zips picked up the win on the night, 87-55.

Xavier Castaneda led all scorers on the night as he scored 33 on 11 of 15 shooting in the win for his squad.
