LAST TIME OUT:
Orono, Maine -- Sera Hodgson registered a career-high 15 points as Maine's second half comeback fell short in a home opening 55-46 loss to Yale on Saturday evening.

Hodgson, who hit 4-of-7 from the floor, added three rebounds in the contest. Caroline Bornemann chipped in her first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Maine fell in a hole early, shooting just 3-of-25 in the first half, as the Black Bears found themselves down 30-10 at the half.

Maine regrouped at the break and came out strong in the second half, outscoring Yale 22-10 in the third quarter to close the gap.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Through two games this season, the Black Bears are averaging 53.3 points per game while surrendering 60.0, third best in the conference. Maine, which ranked in the top-50 in the nation in turnovers per game a year ago, has continued the trend as it ranks third in the America East at 16.3 turnovers per game through the first three. In the early stages, Maine's three-point production also mimics the offense from a year ago as Maine ranks second in the America East and 94th nationally with 7.3 triples per game. Individually, Maine has received great scoring production from beyond the arc and off the bench from Olivia Rockwood. Rockwood is averaging 10.7 points per game points per game. Rockwood checks in atop the conference at 3.3 three point field goals per game. Rockwood's 37.0 percent showing from long range is fifth best in the league. The Black Bears feature two players (Bornemann, Smith) who rank in the top 10 among the league's rebounders. Bornemann, who posted her first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds last time out, ranks third in the league at 8.7 rebounds per game while Smith checks in sixth at 7.0 Smith ranks ninth in the America East at 6.5 rebounds per game. Sera Hodgson started her first game of the year against Yale and turned in a career-high 15 point scoring effort. Anne Simon, the reigning America East Player and Defensive Player of the Year, is Maine's leading scorer but suffered a lower leg injury in Maine's game against Yale and will miss an undetermined amount of time.

A LOOK AT NORTHEASTERN:
The Huskes enter play at 2-2 and fresh off a 63-51 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday. After opening its season with a win over Boston University, the Huskies dropped contests at No. 6 UConn and at home to Boston College. Northeastern is a year removed from a 14-18 season which saw the team go on to compete in the WBI Postseason tournament, only to lose all three games in postseason play. Derin Erdogan (14.8 ppg) and Gemima Motema (14.5) lead Northeastern's scoring attack with the next highest scorer averaging 5.8 points. Erdogan also leads Northeastern in assists at 3.0 and is shooting 48.8 percent from the floor, 45.8 percent from downtown. Like Maine, the Huskies like the three point shot as they rank second in the CAA in three pointers made per game (7.0) and first with 87 total three point attempts on the season. On the flip-side, the Huskies rank second in the CAA in three-point percentage defense (27.7). In the early going, the Huskies have struggled to take care of the ball with 22.5 turnovers per game. Northeastern is coached by Bridgette Mitchell who is in her second year.

SERIES WITH NORTHEASTERN:
Maine and Northeastern have a storied history as each were conference foes in the Seaboard Conference, the North Atlantic Conference and, most recently up until 2004-05, the America East conference. The teams will meet for the 60th time in history. Maine is 36-24 all-time against Northeastern and will be taking on the Huskies for the eighth time in the past nine years, the fifth in the last six, and the fourth consecutive season. Maine snapped a two-game losing skid to Northeastern in last season's meeting, earning a 63-62 victory behind a 34 point performance from Blanca Millan. The Black Bears last hosted Northeastern in 2019, dropping that contest 66-58. Maine's last win at  home over Northeastern came in 2016, a 68-49 victory. The two teams have met seven times in postseason play, with Northeastern holding a slight 3-4 record in conference postseason action. Maine defeated Northeastern, 70-59 to capture the 1995 North Atlantic Conference championship. The first-ever meeting between the two squads took place in 1977, a 57-40 win by the Huskies.
