Adrianna Smith named America East 2025-26 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ORONO, Maine -- After putting together one of the most dominant women's basketball seasons in league history, Adrianna Smith has been named the 2025-26 America East Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league on Thursday afternoon.
Smith is the third Black Bear to secure this award and the second straight after Myla Schneider (women's soccer) a year ago. Former Black Bear Liz Wood (women's basketball) was honored back in 2015. The award has been given out every year since 1996. Smith was chosen from 10 female student-athletes who were named scholar-athletes in their respective sports this year.
In the 2025-26 season, Smith put together one of the most dominant seasons in America East basketball history while securing her second career Player of the Year honor. The forward became the first men's or women's player in league history to lead the conference in scoring (22.8), rebounding (10.7) and assists (4.7) and the only player in league history with career totals of 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 400 assists. In 2025-26 she joined Maya Moore as the second women's player in NCAA history with 700 points, 300 rebounds and 150 assists in a single season.
Smith, a three-time America East All-Academic team selection, graduated with a 3.79 grade point average (GPA) in kinesiology and physical education (exercise science) and a 3.93 GPA as a MBA student. She has been recognized three times on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll and is a six-time Dean's List honoree. She has been honored twice as a Presidential Scholar and is a four-time UMaine Scholar-Athlete award winner for achieving a 3.0 or higher GPA.
A finalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, Smith was named both the America East and ECAC Player of the Year. The forward also was named to the All-ECAC First Team, America East First Team, and America East All-Defensive Team.
She posted 20 double-doubles in 2025-26, including in 11-straight games to close the season, and became only the eighth player in NCAA Division I women's basketball since 1982 to average 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 4.0+ assists in a season. She is also just the fourth player in history to record 700+ points, 300+ rebounds, and 140+ assists in a single season.
Smith, who posted double-digit scoring efforts in 31 of Maine's 32 games, produced 20 or more points 23 times and registered 30 or more points in five games. She was named the America East Player of the Week seven times this season.
The Scholar-Athletes of the Year were voted on by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement Committee. Each year, the committee elects a Scholar-Athlete in each of the league's 18 championship sports following the fall, winter and spring seasons and from that group, chooses one male and one female as the conference's Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
