Maine fell in a hole early, shooting just 3-of-25 in the first half, as the Black Bears found themselves down 30-10 at the half.
Maine regrouped at the break and came out strong in the second half, outscoring Yale 22-10 in the third quarter to close the gap.
Trailing by 19 early in the third, Maine was able to string together an 8-0 run. Simon began the run with a bucket in the paint before Hodgson's free throw came prior to a big triple from the top of the key by Paula Gallego.
Maine kept charging as Bornemann pulled down an offensive board before cashing in strong, cutting the lead to 11.
After Yale broke Maine's 8-0 sprint with a bucket, Hodgson dialed up a three before Adrianna Smith cashed in down low on a layup to bring Maine within eight, 38-30, with 1:57 left in the third.
The deficit remained at eight until Sarah Talon drove the lane, converting the layup while drawing a foul. The bucket brought Maine to within six but it would be as close as the Black Bears could get.
