PREVIEW: Women’s Ice Hockey Travels to #13 Providence for Hockey East Series

Providence, Rhode Island - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team head on the road to face the #13 Providence Friars, the first game of their next ten that will be on the road.

The Series

  • From 2006, Maine has an overall record of 15-24-4 against the Providence Friars.
  • The Black Bears have won their last three matchups against the Friars including a 4-1 victory in their last matchup in the 2021-22 season.
Black Bears Notes and Notables
  • The Black Bears are coming off a weekend sweep against Holy Cross with a 4-0 win on Nov. 11 and a 4-1 win on Nov. 12. 
  • Grace Heiting currently leads the Black Bears in points (13) on seven goals and eight assists on the season.
  • Lilli Welcke (9) earned herself four points against Holy Cross where she had four assists, two in each game.
  • Mira Sergély (5) is coming off a strong weekend herself after securing one goal on Nov. 11 as well as another goal and an assist on Nov. 12. 
  • Brooklyn Oakes had good showings in net against Holy Cross earning her the shutout victory on Nov. 11 with 25 saves in net as well as the 4-1 victory on Nov. 12 where she had 22 saves.
About #13 Providence
  • Providence is coming off a 3-0 win against Northeastern on Nov. 15.
  • Sara Hjalmarsson is the current Providence leader in points (15) with five goals and ten assists on the season.
  • Lauren DeBlois earned herself two points in the Northeastern matchup with one goal and one assist on the game.
  • Lindsay Bochna is also coming off a good performance of two points with an assist on two of the three goals scored.
  • Sandra Abstreiter had the shutout victory in net for Providence with 23 saves.
