Women's Ice Hockey Runs Winning Streak to 5 at Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI – The University of Maine women's ice hockey has run their winning streak to 5 as they downed the Friars of Providence College, 2-1, Friday night.
 
FIRST GOAL (1-0 Providence): The Friar's found the back of the net early in the second period following a scoreless first period by both sides. Delaney Courtney fired her 3rd of the season into the back of the net. Bailey Burton (6) picked up the lone assist.
 
SECOND GOAL (1-1 Maine): The Black Bears found the back of the net on their second power play chance of the season as Jen Costa (6) got the puck off of the boards behind the friar's net and feed it up to Courtney Colarullo (7). Colarullo fired it on net, where Ally Johnson was positioned for the put-back goal. The score was her seventh of the season.
 
THIRD GOAL (2-1 Maine): Maine would break the tied contest as Mira Seregély netted her second of the season following a shot that kick off some bodies and snuck its way into the back of the net. Ida Kuoppala (11) picked up the assist.
 
The Black Bears penalty-kill would end up being the difference maker as following a 5-minute major with 6:29 left in the contest, the Maine defense would hold on and win their fifth-straight contest.
 
Loryn Porter stopped 41 of 42 shots she faced in the winning effort.
 
Mireille Kingsley picked up 20 saves in the losing performance.
 
Maine (11-13-1, 9-8-1 HE) is staying Providence to wrap-up the season series as the two sides face-off on Sunday, Jan. 30. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
