Brooke Sulinski leads Maine to 2-0 win over Northeastern

Maine has now won 11 of last 12 home contests dating back to 2019

ORONO - Senior Brooke Sulinski continued her torrid scoring streak on Sunday afternoon, leading Maine to a 2-0 win over Northeastern to complete a weekend sweep for the Black Bears in Orono.

Sulinski has now scored in four of her last five outings and leads the team with seven goals on the season. It's her second multi-goal outing of the season, and she's acheived it all on just 14 credited shots.

Sunday's contest saw a minimal amount of offense, outside of an eighty-second stretch in the third quarter. Sulinski connected twice with Sydney Meader across the crease, as Meader now sits second behind Brooke for the team point lead with seven this season via two goals and three assists. At time of publishing, Brooke Sulinski leads the conference in goals and sits second in points with 14.

The defensive unit for Maine was dominant from beginning to end, as the backline unit held Northeastern to just four shots and two on goal. Poppy Lambert led the statistical effort with her third defensive save of the season, and the dominant line of Hannah Abbott, Cassandra Mascarenhas, Brittany Smith, and others kept the Huskies away from any semblance of offense all day. Mia Borley assisted the effort by being her usual self in net, pitching her first shutout of the season and her 12th in her career.

The Black Bears have won 11 of their last 12 matches in Orono, dating back to 2019.

Next up for the 3-5 Maine squad is the opening of America East play, first against preseason favorite Monmouth University on Friday at 3:00 in Orono. After that, they'll welcome the Stanford Cardinal to Orono for a Sunday tilt.
