Harrisonburg, VA -- The University of Maine football team (0-2) dropped a 55-7 decision at No. 3 James Madison (2-0) on Saturday afternoon.
Derek Robertson recorded his first career touchdown pass in the contest, finding
Andre Miller for a 22-yard third quarter score.
Robertson, subbing in for the injured
Joe Fagnano who left the game with a lower leg injury in the first quarter, finished the game 8-for-22 with 88-yards and a touchdown.
Elijah Barnwell and
Freddie Brock split the carries for the Black Bears, with Barnwell leading the way with 16 carries for 57 yards. For the second week in a row,
Devin Young led Maine's receiving crew in catches after tallying four receptions against the Dukes.
A week after setting a personal career-high with eight tackles against Delaware,
Fofie Bazzie led Maine's defense with a new career-high 10 stops.
Ray Miller turned in eight tackles while
Xavier Mitchell registered Maine's lone sack on the afternoon.
The Dukes began the scoring 1:46 into the first quarter when Cole Johnson connected with Noah Turner for a 27-yard touchdown pass. JMU tacked on a 41-yard field goal from Ethan Ratke late in the first quarter to extend its lead to 10-0.
With 9:34 remaining in the second quarter, the Dukes added to their lead on a 74-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Antwane Wells Jr. Just under three minutes later, Johnson found Wells Jr. once again, this time for a 51-yard score.
JMU began the second half scoring with a 21-yard field goal from Ratke to push the deficit to 27-0.
The Dukes tacked on a special teams touchdown midway through the third after blocking Maine's punt and scooping up the loose ball for another touchdown.
The Black Bears registered their first score of the contest with 5:07 left in the third quarter. Robertson completed a seven play, 75-yard drive with his first career touchdown pass after finding Miller for a 22-yard touchdown.
JMU answered with a touchdown of its own late in the third on Johnson's fourth touchdown pass of the game, a 25-yard strike to Scott Bracey.
The lead swelled to 48-7 with 11:19 left in regulation when JMU's Lorenzo Bryant Jr. bounced in from six yards out for the Dukes' first rushing touchdown of the afternoon. Francis Meehan would intercept Robertson's pass attempt shortly after, returning it 31 yards for a defensive score.
