Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine football program has announced that it will open the 2021 fall campaign by hosting Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware under the lights at Alfond Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 2.

The game, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 4, will mark the fifth consecutive fall season in which the Black Bears will open the season with a night game. Maine hosted Sacred Heart on Friday evening in 2019, opened on a Thursday night against New Hampshire in 2018, played a season opening game under the lights at New Hampshire in 2017, and began the 2016 season under the lights at UConn.

Game time for the Sept. 2 opener, along with ticket information, will be announced soon.
