ALBANY, N.Y. - The Maine baseball program fell twice in a long day of baseball on Sunday, as the two teams battled for over eight hours through a pair of rain delays with Albany notching 23-11 and 3-2 victories.
Sean Lawlor was a standout for Maine at the dish, driving a three-run home run in his first at-bat of the day on his way to a 10-RBI weekend through the four games. Jefff Mejia blasted the first home run of his Black Bear career and now rides a five-game hitting streak, and freshman
Quinn McDaniel drove in three runs on Sunday for a five-RBI weekend.
Freshman
Tyler Nielsen made his first career start on the mound in game two, and had his solid performance cut short by a rain delay. He ended the day with 4.2 innings pitched, allowing just four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five.
With the 2-2 weekend in Albany Maine sits at a 15-14 overall record and a 10-11 mark within the conference. Coming down the home stretch of the regular season, Maine now sits in third place in the 'A' Division, with only the top two teams in each division qualifying for the playoffs.
Maine will return home for a vital series against the division's fourth place team, UMass-Lowell, at Mahaney Diamond this Saturday and Sunday.
