Maine's season comes to a close in America East Semifinals

Stanford prevails by a 2-1 final score

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The University of Maine field hockey team had their season come to a close on Thursday afternoon, falling to Stanford in the America East semifinals for the second straight season.

A 0-0 first half was disrupted by a Stanford goal with just 1:19 remaining in the half. Maine responded instantly in the second half, with Brooke Sulinksi notching a breakaway goal to tie things up 3:26 into the second half.

The 1-1 score held all the way through the final moments, when Stanford drew a penalty stroke with just 2:15 remaining, converting the stroke and holding Maine off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure the 2-1 win and another trip to the America East championship.

Maine finishes their season with a 7-4 overall record, and will look to reload for the fall 2021 season with all their seniors returning for another run at the program's first conference championship.
