ORONO - The America East Conference announced their postseason awards and All-Conference recipients on Wednesday afternoon, with seven Black Bears appearing alongside a co-Coaching Staff of the Year honor for Head Coach Josette Babineau and Associate Head Coach Michelle Simpson.
Leading the way is senior Hana Davis, who becomes the third Black Bear in program history to be named Midfielder of the Year. She joins Casey Crowley (2018) and Stephanie Gardiner (2011) as Maine players to receive the honor and joins Coach Simpson who won the first Midfielder of the Year award in 2008 while at UAlbany. It is now the third straight season a Maine player has been awarded a conference postseason award, following Cassandra Mascarenhas' Defensive Player of the Year award a year ago.
Davis headlines Maine's three All-Conference selections, as she and junior
Chloe Walton were named to the First Team and senior
Brittany Smith was named to the Second Team. It's Walton's second honor after making the Second Team last season and is the first All-Conference honor for Smith and Davis.
The All-Rookie team featured two new Black Bears that had an instant impact, as Poppy Lambert and Tereza Holubcová appear as two of the eleven selections.
Rounding out the honorees are Julia Ross and Cassandra Mascarenhas, who both earned spots on the All-Academic team for their work on the field and in the classroom.
For Coach Babineau, it is her second time being named Coaching Staff of the Year during her tenure (2015) and the seventh overall for Maine with Coach Terry Kix winning it five times between 1993 and 2005. Just like the America East regular-season crown, Maine shares this award with Monmouth.
Maine will be back in action against Stanford on Thursday afternoon in the America East semifinals.
