WORCESTER, Mass. -- The University of Maine softball team dropped an afternoon doubleheader at Holy Cross by scores of 5-1 and 3-0.
 
Game One - Maine: 1 Holy Cross: 5
 
The Crusaders grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Erin Bengston doubled for her squad before Kari Jacobson followed with an RBI single. After two complete, the Black Bears trailed by two.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bengston doubled once again. This time, the Crusader drove in two runs. Megan Yurchick recorded an RBI on her ground out. Holy Cross held a 5-0 lead after five innings in Worcester.
 
Mariah Pearson drove in Maine's run when she pinch hit in the top of the 7th inning. The double drove in Jasmine Gray. It was as close as the Black Bears would get as they dropped the first game of the doubleheader.
 
Notes:

• Caitlyn Fallon started the first game for Maine. Fallon went 4.1 innings, struck out one, and allowed five runs. Emily Reid finished the game and allowed only one hit.
• Izzy Nieblas, Kya Enos, Keely Clark, Mariah Pearson and Grace McGouldrick all recorded a hit in the loss. Pearson tallied the lone RBI.

 
Game Two - Maine: 0 Holy Cross: 3
 
In the bottom of the first inning, Jessie Nagel lifted a fly ball that drifted over the centerfield fence. The Crusaders' two run shot gave them a 2-0 advantage after one inning in the second game of the day.
 
Bella Jankowski lined an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. It was the final run of the non-conference match-up as the Black Bears dropped the final game of the doubleheader.
 
Notes:

• Kyleigh O'Donnell went the distance for Maine. The senior allowed three runs over 6.0 innings while striking out six.
• Keely Clark and Kelby Drews recorded the two Black Bear hits.

 
Next: Maine will open America East play this Friday, April 2nd at UMass Lowell. First pitch with the River Hawks is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
