Women's Soccer Tripped Up at UMass Lowell, 2-0

LOWELL, Mass. -- The University of Maine women's soccer was defeated by the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon on the campus of UMass Lowell.

First Goal (UMass Lowell 1-0): Marissa Saucedo snagged the first goal of the first half for the River Hawks. Anna Edson played the ball ahead to Saucedo. The forward chipped the ball over a crashing Kira Kutzinski. Maine's netminder narrowly missed making the impressive save. 33 minutes into the first half, UMass Lowell had a 1-0 lead.

Second Goal (UMass Lowell 2-0): Seven minutes after her squad's first goal, Rakel Stefansdottir added another. It was her first career goal. Somewhat similar to the Saucedo goal, the Iceland native avoided an incoming Kutzinski. Her ball deflected off the goal post and into the Maine net. At the half, the Black Bears trailed 2-0.

Maine held a 19-14 advantage in total shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Hannah Bamford, Saylor Clark, and Carla Morich combined for six total shots.

Kutzinski turned away six shots during regulation for her squad.

Next: The Black Bears return to the road when they make a trip to Stony Brook, New York next Sunday, March 28. Kickoff for the America East contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
