NEW YORK -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Fordham University Rams in both games of their afternoon doubleheader by scores of 4-1Â and 7-1.
Â
Game One - Maine: 1 Fordham: 4
Â
The first run of the non-conference Saturday morning game did not come until the fourth inning. Julia Martine, the three hitter for Fordham, ripped a home run over the left field fence. Maine trailed by a run after four complete.
Â
Martine was not done in the game number one. The short stop smacked a two run home run before Rachel Hubertus lifted a solo home run of her own. After six innings in New York, Maine was down by four.
Â
The Black Bears started a late rally in the top of the seventh inning.
Kelby Drews led off the inning with a walk.
Jasmine Gray reached via the fielder's choice. With Gray on first,
Keely Clark laced a double into the corner. Gray circled the bags and touched home. Unfortunately, it was as close as the Black Bears would get as they dropped the first game of the day, 4-1.
