BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team defeated the University of Vermont Catamounts, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in the Gutterson Field House.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): The Black Bears scored the first goal of the afternoon 7:39 into the first period.
Elise Morphy fired a shot at the Catamounts net. Before the puck could travel to Vermont's netminder,
Ida Kuoppala deflected the puck past Blanka Skodova. Maine held an early 1-0 lead.

Second Goal (1-1): As the Maine penalty kill was trying to get off the ice, Vermont made a quick line change and scored the game tying goal. 2:28 into the third period, Corinne McCool tied the Hockey East contest at one goal apiece.

Third Goal (2-1 Maine): Doing what she does best, Kuoppala scored again for the Black Bears.
Rahel Enzler played the puck ahead to a streaking Kuoppala. The second team all-conference forward did the rest. With just over seven minutes remaining in the quarterfinal match-up, Maine held onto a one goal lead.

Fourth Goal (3-1 Maine): After forcing a turnover in the neutral zone,
Celine Tedenby added a late goal. The forward's tally came with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

Notes: Loryn Porter stopped 33 shots for the Black Bears, while Blanka Skodova tallied 16 saves for Vermont.

Maine went 0 for 1 on their power play opportunities, as the Catamounts were 0-2 on its player advantages.

The Black Bears blocked eight shots as a team.
