Loryn Porter Named Finalist for the first Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year Award

ORONO, Maine -- Senior goaltender Loryn Porter was selected as one of eight finalists for the first Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Award, which were announced Friday.

Eight goalies from four Division I conferences have advanced from a "Watch List" of 21 outstanding netminders. Voting was carried out by a panel of coaches, administrators and media members from across the country. The finalists have an international flair to them with three from the U.S., two from Canada and one each from Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. Two are freshmen, three are juniors and three are seniors. The winner will be announced in March during the NCAA Frozen Four.

"Loryn's consistency and timely grade 'A' saves has given her team the opportunity to be in every game this season. Like many teams we never had a complete line up and rarely played back to back weekends. She never let outside situations affect her ability to perform her best, which is impressive considering this was the first season as a starter in her senior year," said head coach Richard Reichenbach. "We have a young team and taking in account for the shots and scoring chances she faced, the numbers are impressive. She has had as much of a positive impact on our team's success as any player I have seen."

Porter, currently, boasts a 1.56 GAA and a .953 save percentage. The senior is in her first season as the starting goaltender for the Black Bears.
