Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team turned in its best shooting effort (52.3) from the floor and best mark from 3-point range (36.7) of the season to help guide it to an 86-50 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.
All 13 Black Bears who appeared in the game were able to find the scoring column, led by Ja'Shonte Wright-McLeish's career-high 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
Vukasin Masic added a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 10 assist while
Novak Perovic chipped in 10 points.
Maine finished the contest 11-for-30 from beyond the arc while holding a 44-25 edge on the boards while outscoring the Nor'Easters 40-20 in the paint.
After three ties and a pair of lead changes over the opening 10 minutes of action, Maine began to distance itself. With Maine leading by four, the Black Bears were able to extend the lead out to double-digits with a 16-4 run. Back-to-back triples from
LeChaun DuHart and Masic gave Maine a 13 point advantage. A triple from Wright-McLeish and one more from
Maks Klanjscek gave Maine its largest advantage of the first half, 37-20.
After UNE cut the lead down to 14 early in the second half, Maine responded with a 7-0 run. The sprint began with five points from Wright-McLeish before Fofo Adetogun's deep jumper lifted the deficit to 21.
The Black Bears looked to put things away late when a 6-0 run pushed the hosts out to a 25 point edge.
Maine would cruise the rest of the way, ending the game on a 20-4 run to seal the 86-50 victory.
